CENTER MORICHES

Last Season: 14-0 (14-2), won Long Island Championship

Seeking a third consecutive trip to Cortland for the state tournament, Center Moriches features a versatile team with players that accommodate one another very well. With such flexibility, many players won’t be set in one position, namely senior Alexis Parlato, who can play anywhere on the field. Junior defenders Pakia Plummer and Brianna Mascia will shore up the backline and the attack will be led by sophomore forward Claire Brady and senior forward Samantha Fitzgerald. With unmatched depth, balance and experience in Class B, the Red Devils might be pricing out hotel rooms upstate in the near future.

Season Opener: Sept. 16, vs. Eastport-South Manor

SHOREHAM WADING RIVER

Last Season: 9-3 (11-5), lost 3-0 to Islip in the semifinals

The Wildcats are the Class A Wildcard. If there is one preseason favorite to prevent a Sayville/Islip rematch in the county final, it would be Shoreham Wading River. The attack will flow through third-team all-state senior center-midfielder Kari Quinn, who is bound for Syracuse and has great field vision and footwork. She will lead a more offensive-minded scheme along with senior center-mid Shannon McDonnell and forward Meghan Seabrook. Sophomore keeper Kelly Wynkoop, who started last season as a freshman, will only get better this year.

Season Opener: Sept. 20, at the home of the defending Class B Long Island champs Center Morichesnah

BAYPORT-BLUE POINT

Last Season: 8-4-2 (8-6-2), lost 3-0 to Islip in quarterfinals

The Phantoms feature a strong returning core, an experienced senior class, a solid supporting cast and some young talent. With some new defenders coming up, second-team all-state defender Rebecca Raber will shift from the backfield to the midfield. A great distributor of the ball with a cannon of a shot, Raber adds a new element to the Bayport offense. She is joined by senior midfielders Danielle Heyder, who can put the ball in from a distance, Abbie Grappuso, one of the team’s leading scorers, and Mackenzie Miller, who has great speed. Junior forward Kaitlyn Leahy will be a threat on the wing for a team that hopes to be a smart possession style team.

Season Opener: Sept. 10, at defending county champ Sayville

MOUNT SINAI

Last Season: 5-7-2 (5-9-2)

The Mustangs return a very young team that was just shy of making the playoffs last season. With 13 players returning, nine of which were freshman and eighth-graders last season, a year’s experience may help Mount Siani earn that coveted sixth win to qualify for postseason play. Senior sweeper Arianna Shaljan and junior center-mid Marisa Colacino will provide some veteran leadership for a team that improved in the second half of the season last year.

Season Opener: Sept. 12, at Comsewogue

MATTITUCK

Last Season: 7-4-3 (9-4-3), lost 1-0 to Center Moriches in county final

After a somewhat controversial loss in the Class B county title game against Center Moriches, the Tuckers lose 13 to graduation but call-up a nice incoming class that has played together at the JV level for the past two years. Mattituck will build out of the back behind junior defenders Anna Goeller and Lauren Guja. The offense will be in transition but some strong pieces remain, including senior center-midfielder/forward Liz Lasota and freshman forward Nikki Zurawski, who came up as an eight-grader last year and can also play some defense.

Season Opener: Sept. 14, vs. Miller Place (rematch with Center Moriches on Oct. 4)

BABYLON: 5-8-1 (6-9-1)…Season Opener: Sept. 15, at Elwood/John Glenn

HAMPTON BAYS: 0-14 (1-14-1)…Season Opener: Sept. 12 vs. McGann-Mercy

SOUTHAMPTON: 2-12 (2-13-2)…Season Opener: Sept. 12, vs. East Hampton
