It was fitting that Hauppauge guard Julie Williams scored her 1,000th career point on a three-point shot.

Williams has led Suffolk in three-pointers made in each of the last two seasons, according to Hauppauge coach Jamie Edson, and back on Dec. 8 nailed a three-pointer in the third quarter of a 63-39 non-league win at Hampton Bays to reach the 1,000 point plateau.

“When she’s open she makes everything,” Edson said. “She’s one of the best shooters in Suffolk.”

Williams scored 33 in that game, and is leading Suffolk in scoring at 24.7 points per game. Last year she led Hauppauge to its first class AA county championship game and its first undefeated season in League IV. This year she’s got the Eagles off to a 5-1 start.

“We face a box-and-one almost every game and she still finds ways to score,” Edson said.
