Though Sachem East walked away victorious yesterday at the Long Island Challenge there were wrestlers from the other teams that had very successful days.

Chief among them was MacArthur’s Steven Schneider. A senior, Schneider is the defending Nassau County champion at 160 pounds and finished second in New York State last season.

Anthony Parlato recorded eight assists, eight steals, four points and four rebounds to lead Center Moriches over Mattituck, 74-56, at a tournament honoring his late father on Friday night.

Senior swingman Terry Harris scored 35 points to lead Half Hollow Hills West in their League IV opener at Kings Park.

Hills West head coach Bill Mitaritonna said Harris "shot exceptionally well," and "carried" the team to victory.

Syosset, winless in conference last year, upsets Uniondale

Syosset guard Dan Albernas knew expectations were low.

“I think that, really, just our coach and our players gave us a chance heading into this game,” the 5-11 junior said.

After failing to win a game against a conference opponent last season, few predicted the Braves would upset Uniondale, which last year made it to the Nassau County final, on Thursday in the AA-I opener for both teams.
