Bellport baseball coach Bill Batewell has been a winner wherever he’s gone. Between the 30 years he spent at Sachem and the last six at the helm at Bellport, Batewell has now won 500 career games after the Clippers beat West Babylon, 6-1, Thursday, making Batewell the sixth baseball coach in Suffolk history to reach the 500-win mark. You can’t put a price on earning the respect of your opponents and piers. Hauppauge’s Julie Williams and Herricks’ Alison Ricchiuti were happy to learn that this season. Section XI coaches named Williams its Suffolk player of the year and Section VIII coaches declared Ricchiuti its Nassau player of the year, earning both senior girls basketball stars the highest honor either county has to offer....Read more »
If the Sachem North softball team is going to end its postseason drought, the Flaming Arrows are going to have to take everything one at-bat at a time, make good contact, and not let the plays in the field affect their offense.

On April 1, the Elmont baseball team knocked off Mepham 4-3, and it was no April fool's joke.
Robert Gates is in his seventh season as the head coach at Elmont. The past six years – an 0-19 campaign in 2007 and five years spent in the developmental and County wide leagues – have proven to be tough times.
