1. SACHEM EAST FIELD HOCKEY

Katie Trombetta scored a career-high four goals as the Flaming Arrows opened the season with an 8-1 win over Whitman. Sachem East is following up a 22-0 season in which it earned a second straight Class A state title.

A sturdy line and a bevy of skill position players led by senior halfback Trent Crossan opened the season with a 35-6 win over intradistrict rival Sachem East. Crossan had three touchdown runs.

3. LAWRENCE FOOTBALL

Record-breaking quarterback Joe Capobianco threw for four first-half touchdowns in a 51-6 win over Manhasset. The defending Long Island Class III champions have won 13 in a row.

4. ST. ANTHONY'S GIRLS SOCCER

Mackenzie Kober scored two goals to lift the two-time defending CHSAA state champions to a 4-1 win over Longwood. The Friars then won their league opener over St. Francis Prep, 3-0, on goals by Kaitlin Loughren, Michelle Santangelo and Tricia Hanley.

5. MILLER PLACE FIELD HOCKEY

The defending Long Island Class B champs opened the season with three impressive victories, including a 4-1 win over Class A power East Islip. The Panthers' defense, led by Alyssa Parrella and Kristen Roberto, held Harborfields and Shoreham-Wading River scoreless.

6. HALF HOLLOW HILLS EAST GIRLS TENNIS

Hills East hasn't dropped a match yet, winning 7-0 against Harborfields, Commack and Westhampton. The two-time Suffolk titlist is riding a 34-match win streak against Suffolk opponents.

7. NORTHPORT BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

The Tigers are dominant again. Mike Branigan and Tim McGowan return. Northport finished third overall and first among LI teams at last season's state championships.

8. ST. ANTHONY'S BOYS SOCCER

Michelangelo Sini scored in the 65th minute off a pass from Jake Giuffreda to lead St. Anthony's over St. John the Baptist in the CHSAA opener after the Friars split two games against fierce competition in New Jersey last week. In one of those non-league tournament games, TJ Butzke had a goal and an assist to propel the Friars over Delbarton.

9. SOUTH SIDE GIRLS SOCCER

Jess Hawley, Keri Cavallo and Christina Klaum scored as the defending Class A state champs opened the season with a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart. But the Cyclones needed a late goal to manage a 1-1 tie with Plainedge in their league opener.

10. ST. ANTHONY'S BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

The Friars won the Under the Lights Invitational in Randolph, N.J., last weekend. Louis Santelli won the 5K race in 15 minutes, 51 seconds; Joseph Tucker finished third in 15:58.35. St. Anthony's topped all LI teams at last season's New York Federation meet.
