O'Gorman's OT goal helps SWR clinch playoff berth

Chris O'Gorman scored from 25 yards out one minute into overtime as Shoreham-Wading River overcame a two-goal deficit in the final minutes of regulation for a 3-2 win Thursday over Miller Place in Suffolk League VI boys soccer.

SWR (7-4-1), which clinched a playoff spot, overcame a 2-0 deficit with 3:25 left in regulation. Jake Scavetta scored to give Miller Place (7-3-2) a 2-0 lead with 3:25 left. SWR's Chris Frick scored 20 seconds later on a header off a cross by Conner Drost to the deficit to 2-1. Ben Quinn tied it with 1:42 left off a through ball from Will Miller to force overtime.

Comsewogue 1, Sayville 0: Chase Lipshie scored off a feed by Josh Butzke 4:51 into the first overtime to lead Comsewogue (12-0) in League V. Kyle Dougherty paced the defense with seven saves for his ninth shutout.

Lawrence Woodmere 2, Solomon Schechter 0: Benny Schulman scored off a feed from Mark Freeman with 17 minutes left to give Lawrence Woodmere Academy (4-3-3) a 1-0 lead in IPPSAL. LWA advances to the IPPSAL playoffs and will play a first-round game at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Port Washington 2, Friends Academy 1: Emily Rosenthal scored two goals, including the winner on a penalty kick with 6:14 left to lead Port Washington (7-2-1) in Nassau Conference VI.

West Islip 4, Sachem North 1: Kelsey Raschke had two first-half goals and Lauren Bellone added a goal and assist for West Islip (7-2-2) in League II. Codi-Lynn Johnson knocked in a rebound to make the score 4-1. Lindsey Aponte made five saves. Courtney Cohen scored for Sachem North (7-3).

Waldorf 1, Hempstead 0: Laura Ackerman scored the winner off an assist from Jackie Proctor with nine minutes left in the non-league game to lead Waldorf (7-3-1).

GIRLS TENNIS

Manhasset 5, South Side 2: Charlotte Burch and Lizzie Creitman defeated Liz Handsnan and Nicole Scaduto, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), in third doubles for Manhasset in a Conference II semifinal. Manhasset will face Plainview JFK in the final.

Plainview JFK 4, Oceanside 3: Rebecca Shnitkin and Sophia Dekhytar beat Leigh Cohen and Stacy Rozell 5-7, 6-0, 6-4, in fourth doubles for Plainview JFK (11-3) in a Conference II semifinal.

FIELD HOCKEY

Copiague 2, North Babylon 1: Dana Randazo scored the winner on an assist from Sam Spadone midway through overtime to lead Copiague (2-11) to its second straight win in Division II. It is the first time in 10 years that Copiague won two games in a season.

Sayville 5, Patchogue-Medford 0: Jennifer Clinton had a hat trick and Olivia Cabral added two scores for Sayville (12-1). Caroline Hess, Shannon Litvin and Arielle Theofield each had an assist in the win.

West Babylon 4, Bay Shore 1: Senior Courtney Baranek scored a career-high four goals, all in the second half, for West Babylon (11-2). Amy Robbins and Shanna Green each had two assists in the win.

New Hyde Park 4, Floral Park 0: Kristen Lynch and Lisa O'Callaghan each scored two goals and Allie Coccamo, Kerri-Leigh Heesemann, Paige Sferrazza and Molly Stein added an assist for New Hyde Park (7-6) in Conference I.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

South Side 3, Hicksville 0: Senior Melanie Franco had a career-high 10 aces and seven kills for South Side (7-6) in a 25-12, 25-19, 25-21 win in Conference II. Grace Healey added three aces and four blocks.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Bellmore-Merrick 99, Great Neck South 86: Gabbie Toback set a school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a 1:02.95 finish for Bellmore-Merrick (5-1) in Conference I. The previous record was 1:03.9 set in 1981.

BOYS BADMINTON

Jericho 6, Great Neck North 1: Dawi Shin defeated Mike Dilamani, 17-21, 21-11, 21-19, in first singles for Jericho (14-0). Pritak Patl and Robert Guber defeated Matt Mizrahi and Alex Weber, 21-16, 22-20, in fourth doubles for Jericho.
