The Suffolk Scene: . . . And we’re back

Well that was a long time wasn’t it? But the nine-month wait is over and we’re back with softball in Suffolk. The previews should be hitting the newsstands in a few weeks, but I thought I would post the changes (so far) made to the 2010 softball landscape with a few thoughts.

- Commack to League 1
- Lindenhurst to League 2
- North Babylon to League 3
- Copiague to League 4
- Harborfields to League 5
- Sayville to League 6
- Hampton Bays to League 7
- Mattituck to League 8

With a lot of the Brentwood state championship team having gone the way of graduation, and some of the other top League I pitchers doing the same, Commack has to be considered the favorite there now. Especially after their strong showing last season…Looking forward to a lot of Hampton Bays v. Babylon battles during the regular season. Make sure you go to those games, it’s a likely preview of the Class B championship.

Eastport-South Manor back to "A" status from "AA"

Like this move a lot. Last year ESM was miscast as a AA school because they were just a few kids over the line, and they posted a respectable regular season (playing many A teams) before losing early in the playoffs. This year, with Havens in the circle, they should go deep into the postseason….with Bay Shore and Commack two of the biggest standouts in AA, the fight for the Class A title could actually be much more compelling this year.
