With another shutout from Taylor McGowan and a 2-for-4 day from Liz Weber, who also homered, Bay Shore coach Jim McGowan led the team to its 20th straight 20-win season on Thursday.
McGowan has coached the team since 1983, and the 20 seasons of 20 wins is a state record. The program has won at least 20 games in 24 of the 28 seasons he’s coached. In 1990 Bay Shore was 16-7, but bounced...Read more »
East Islip (18-1, 17-1 League III) has clinched the second seed in Class AA, and should they advance to the finals, they'll likely be met by the Bay Shore powerhouse. The Marauders ousted East Islip from the playoffs last year, 4-0, in the semi-finals, but this East Islip team believes it has the stuff to avenge that early exit.
“We're always preparing for the best, and right now that...Read more »
Ariana LaPuma was 2-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs and Emma Agostini went 2-for-3 with four RBIs as Centereach (10-8) beat Newfield, 12-0, clinching a playoff spot in League IV. This is the second year in a row Centereach has made the playoffs after a 10 year absence.
This is the first time Centereach has won back-to-back playoff berths since the mid-1980's, according to coach Sal...Read more »

Glenn's Samantha Capobianco hit her 12th home run last night in a 12-6 loss to Bayport-Blue Point. Capobianco has hit a homer in five straight games, dating back to April 28th.
You may remember that last year's home run leader, West Islip's Jennifer Ranieri, paced Suffolk with eight. But Capobianco is far from approaching history with her 12 long balls, even with Glenn's two remaining contests.

After making the playoffs for the first time in 10 years in 2009, Centereach is attempting to make it two years straight this year. The team stands at 4-6 (teams have to be .500 to make the playoffs) after a win over West Islip today. However, Centereach would be 5-5 right now if not for a scheduling problem that ran up against a brick wall of rules.
The team was originally scheduled to take...Read more »

Taylor pitched her fourth no-hitter of the year tonight, walking one and striking out 10 in five innings for Kings Park (11-1) in a 9-0 win over East Hampton in a League V-VI crossover. She also has two career perfect games.
This is Taylor’s second no-no of the week, as she held Rocky Point hitless...Read more »
