St. Anthony's girls lacrosse tops Big 10 for second straight week

1. ST. ANTHONY'S GIRLS LACROSSE

Izzy Mangan scored three goals and Destinie Katz had two goals and three assists as the Friars won their only game last week, beating Holy Trinity, 17-5. St. Anthony's is still riding high after its April 27 upset of St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Alexandria, Va.) but has a big week ahead with games against St. John the Baptist, Garden City and Manhasset.

2. WARD MELVILLE BOYS LACROSSE

The nation's No. 2 team retains Long Island's top spot after dismantling defending state champion and nine-time county champ West Islip, 11-2. Sophomore sensation Danny Bucaro had two goals and five assists. The Patriots also crushed Floyd, 20-6.

3. GARDEN CITY GIRLS LACROSSE

The Trojans (11-0) became the only undefeated team in Nassau Conference I, beating Wantagh and Farmingdale last week. Taylor Carpentier made 15 saves and Jackie Jahelka scored three goals, including the winner in double overtime in a 13-12 win over Farmingdale.

4. COMMACK SOFTBALL

The Kiersten Carlomagno and Kristen Andrews combination continues to fuel the Cougars. The two capped another perfect week with a 7-2 win over Floyd as Carlomagno went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs and Andrews allowed five hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts.

5. WANTAGH BASEBALL

The Warriors (15-0) are coming off a three-game sweep of Jericho. Kevin Specht started the series by pitching a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts. They opened a series with Garden City by beating the Trojans, 2-0, over the weekend.

6. CHAMINADE BOYS LACROSSE

After suffering its first loss, the Flyers responded by defeating Kellenberg, 10-3, and Bergen Catholic, 16-4. Tommy Zenker notched a hat trick in both games. The Flyers look to sweep the two-game regular season series against St. Anthony's on Thursday.

7. KELLENBERG GIRLS TRACK

Jazmine Fray's 800-meter time of 2:14.07, at the New York Relays on April 19 is currently the top time in New York State. Kellenberg's 4 x 200 relay team ran a 1:48.60 at the Nanuet Relay on April 13, currently the best time on Long Island.

8. COMMACK BASEBALL

Two one-run wins over Floyd eliminated the Colonials from playoff contention and set up a showdown with Ward Melville for the League I title. Starters Ryan Heizman and Rob Paccione have anchored the Commack staff. Kyle Krebs has been the stopper.

9. MANHASSET GIRLS LACROSSE

Lindsey Ronbeck scored three goals in each game as the Indians (10-2) earned big wins over Cold Spring Harbor and Massapequa and moved to sixth in the national rankings. Manhasset's losses were to fifth-ranked Garden City in overtime and by two goals to No. 3 St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Alexandria, Va.).

10. COLD SPRING HARBOR BOYS TENNIS

The Seahawks (12-0) finished the season undefeated and clinched another Conference I-A title, beating Syosset, Jericho and Port Washington by 4-3 scores this week. Cold Spring Harbor will seek its sixth consecutive Nassau and Long Island championship.
