LONG ISLAND SWIMMER OF THE YEAR: JUSTIN PLASCHKA, Hauppague, Sr.

Plaschka set records in three events at the state championships this season: 200-yard individual medley (1:47.03), 50 freestyle (20.08) and 100 freestyle (43.7). He also holds 10 school records and seven Suffolk county records. Plaschka, headed to Notre Dame, was named the outstanding swimmer at the Suffolk championships

BEN CONO, Smithtown, Sr.

Cano has only been swimming competitivly since 2010, but he clocked a record 54.72 in winning the 100-yard breaststroke at the state meet. He's headed to North Carolina State.

PATRICK CARTER, West Islip, Fr.

Carter placed 15th in diving at the state meet, with a Long Island-best 420.75 points.

GUNTHER CASSELL, Huntington, Jr.

The two-time state champion had a memorable head-to-head competition with Cono in the 100-breaststroke at the state meet, eventually finishing second with a time of 55.13. He also placed fifth in the 100-yard individual medley.
