WINTER BIG 10

1. LONG ISLAND LUTHERAN BOYS BASKETBALL

The state's top-ranked Class AA team kept rolling, with victories over Harry Van Arsdale, 74-36, and Frederick Douglass Academy, 56-38. Kentan Facey had 15 points and 15 rebounds against Frederick Douglass and anchored the Crusaders' extraordinary defense.

2. WANTAGH WRESTLING

Junior Kyle Quinn captured the 106-pound weight class at the New York State wrestling championships in Albany. He led Wantagh to the state team title. Senior James Corbett finished second at 182, senior Dan McDevitt took third at 170 and senior Vin Turano fourth at 132.

3. AMITYVILLE BOYS BASKETBALL

Jack Agostino's 453rd career victory came at the expense of his brother Chris as the Warriors prevailed, 52-42, over Harborfields in the Suffolk Class A championship game. Kavione Green scored 18 points as Amityville avenged losses to Harborfields in the last two county title matchups.

4. WARD MELVILLE GIRLS FENCING

The Patriots won their 11th straight Long Island crown with a 14-3 win over Garden City. Junior epee Melanie Holl won the meet-clinching bout, 5-2. The win is the 174th in a row for the Patriots, giving them the second-longest winning of any sport in Long Island history.

5. LONG ISLAND LUTHERAN GIRLS BASKETBALL

Staci Barrett had 15 points and five boards on Senior Night to lead Lutheran over Mary Louis in the team's regular-season finale. Lutheran will compete in the Class A Federation Championships. Barrett also performed a beautiful rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner before the win over Mary Louis.

6. WARD MELVILLE BOYS FENCING

The Patriots won their sixth straight Long Island championship with a 14-2 win over Great Neck South. Junior epee Tyler LaTourette won the meet-clinching bout, 5-4. The boys sabre team of Travis Quinn, Robert Kent and Emmanuel Thomas and foil team of Michael Antipas, Devon Reina and Matt Petrie are unbeaten. They extended their winning streak to 94 over six seasons.

7. EAST ISLIP BOYS BOWLING

The Redmen returned to prominence this season, winning their second Suffolk championship in three years and having four of their bowlers among the top 10 averages. Mike Kissel (231.2), Jacob Klein (230.3), Nick DeFazio (220.1) and Jon Cheadle (219.7) lead a deep and talented crew that will pursue a state title on Saturday in Syracuse.

8. NORTHPORT BOYS TRACK

Sophomore Mike Brannigan won the 3,200 in 9:35.45 at the LI Elite Track Invitational. Senior Alex Kramer finished second in 9:36.31. Senior James Dickinson won the 1,600 in 4:16.60. Junior Tim McGowan and senior David Hatch finished third and fourth, respectively. Northport scored 82 points and won the Suffolk Large School championship.

9. MIDDLE COUNTRY GIRLS BOWLING

The Cougarines won their first Suffolk title since 2010 and will compete for a state championship Saturday 2 in Syracuse. Middle Country is led by senior Melissa Sherwin, whose 223.2 average broke the Suffolk record, along with Kelly Skalacki (222.6), Amanda Tyrrell (203) and Brooke Kelsey (185.3).

10. ST. ANTHONY'S HOCKEY

St. Anthony's swept Chaminade in the CHSHL finals with a 4-2 win in Game 1 and a 3-2 overtime win in Game 2 to win its second consecutive league championship. Joey Slevin led the way with five points in the two championship series games. The Friars will look to defend their CHSAA state title when they travel to Niagara University.
