GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - Ward Melville had gotten this far by living dangerously. The Patriots teetered on the edge in a five-game match with Smithtown East before advancing to the Long Island volleyball final. Then they came from behind against Massapequa to make it to the state championship.
It was only a matter of time before the ball hit the floor.
