'Tan Mom' Patricia Krentcil headed to Mount Kisco to promote book on skin care
Who better to help hawk a book on caring for your skin than a woman who famously burnt hers to a crisp?
Patricia Krentcil made headlines in May when she was accused of putting her then 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth. The N.J. woman, dubbed "Tan Mom," denied the charges but found herself flamed by the court of public opinion and widely mocked for her toasted appearance.
So it comes as a bit of a shock that a woman with an unnaturally darkened complexion appearing well beyond her 44 years is now the face of a book about skin care from Westchester-based author Dana Ramos. The two will be in Mount Kisco Friday promoting Ramos' new book "The Skin Regime: Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin."
But the choice to use a tanorexic spokeswoman for a book on beautiful skin may not be as half-baked as it seems; Krentcil recently shed her burnt epidermis by spending a full month out of the sun and the tanning bed. The paler Krentcil was nearly unrecognizable on an August cover of InTouch Weekly.
Ramos, a self-proclaimed "skin care enthusiast," posted a YouTube clip in September where she used tips from her book to help repair Krentcil's sun-damaged skin, including giving Krentcil a skin peel.
Krentcil and Ramos wil be at Westchester Mixed Martial Arts in Mount Kisco at 7 p.m. Friday promoting the book's launch.
