Smith earns revenge against Di Iorio; Chamish is All State
In a rematch of the 189-pound Suffolk final, Smithtown West's Jake Smith earned an 11-7 win over Chris Di Iorio of Sachem East to place fifth in the state.
Two weeks ago, Di Iorio pinned Smith in 5:09.
Earlier, Jericho's Joe Chamish became only the second Jericho wrestler to earn All State honors. He took fourth after getting pinned by Lamont Fleming of Corcoran in 4:50.
Ron Richman, who took sixth at 119 pounds in 1974, was Jericho's first All State wrestler. In fact, Chamish and Richman are the only Jawhawks to ever compete in a state tournament.
