Joe "Gov" Campo, who led the Brentwood wrestling team to seven county titles in a row and eight in nine years from 1968-69 through 1976-77, passed away Thursday at the age of 85. Campo, who was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1990, was 261-20 in his 20 seasons as Brentwood's head coach. In 2008, the school's Ross Gymnasium was named in his honor. Starlin Jimenez, a 2000 graduate of Brentwood who was a Suffolk County champion at 112 pounds in 1999, was tragically killed on Wednesday when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on County Road 83 in Medford.

Westhampton's Pete DeTore, Brentwood's Alex Gomez and Huntington's Damon McQueen — all Section XI wrestlers — advanced to the 119-pound quarterfinals.
