His season record is 30-3 with 22 pins, and he is among the Suffolk favorites in the loaded 120-pound class. State championship wild card berths announced

The Division I wild card berths were announced for next Friday-Saturday's NYSPHSAA Championships at the Times-Union Center in Albany. Four wild cards in each weight-class are given to wrestlers throughout the state who failed to win their section. Some of the wild cards were obvious choices (see Gomez, Alex) while others, I'm sure, required more deliberation from the selection committee....

The Division I semis are over. Here are results from the morning action. The finals begin tonight at 7:15 back here at Hofstra:

At 285, pre-tourney favorite and reigning 215-pound champ David NG of Plainedge escaped with a 4-3 decision over Syosset's Evan Kappatos. NG meets Island Trees' Joe Manna, who beat Endri Jaupaj of Massapequa via 7-4 decision in his semifinal match,

More Thoughts From Massapequa's Win

A few thoughts from Massapequa's surprise run to their second straight Nassau championship. They defeated Wantagh, 31-21, in Saturday's final:

Chiefs  coach Joe Catalanotto pushed all the right buttons. He moved 189-pounder Conor Wetzel up to 215 to face Wantagh's ace, Tom Hall. Wetzel controlled Hall en route to the 5-2 decision.

Glenn remains the top team in our Big 10 (ahead of the Half Hollow Hills boys basketball team for the fourth straight week) after it won five matches last week, including four at their own dual-meet tournament on Saturday. Hauppauge moved up one spot to No. 5 this week.
