We are back for Day 2 of the State Tournament, another loooooonnnng day of wrestling, starting with the semis at 10 a.m. and the finals, which begin at 6 p.m.

As usual, Long Island is well-represented in these proceedings, with 26 wrestlers in the semis. Most notably, the 138-pound weight class is an all-Long Island party: in  one semifinal, top seed Dan McDevitt of Wantagh...

Jamel Hudson, the 132-pound senior from St. Anthony's, sees himself as a much more than a wrestler. He fashions himself a throwback, a singer and dancer reminiscent of Sammy Davis Jr.

St. Anthony's 135-pound junior Jamel Hudson got things started at Day 2 of the State Championships at the Times Union Center with a stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Glenn remains the top team in our Big 10 (ahead of the Half Hollow Hills boys basketball team for the seventh straight week) after it crowned its first state champion — 130-pounder Nick Meinsen (pictured) — at the Times Union Center in Albany on Saturday. Nick Terdick placed third at 152 pounds for the Knights.

Hauppauge moved up one spot to No. 3 this week behind 96-pound state...

As expected, Mike Soria of Kings Park forfeited to brother Max in the 103-pound consolation semifinal.

Max took third place in the weight class after he defeated Asher Kramer of Suffern for the second time this weekend, 6-0, while Mike (pictured), last year's 96-pound state champ, finished fifth with an 11-3 win over Chris Brienza of St. Anthony's.

Day 2 has started off with a bang.

At 96 pounds, Mark West of Hauppauge, the Suffolk champ, narrowly edged Nassau champ Mark Raghunandan of Long Beach, 7-2.

Then at 103, it was the Soria brothers' turn. Mike Soria (pictured) won his wrestleback 6-0 of Fox Lane's Sam Speno. But in the semifinals, Max was pinned by Wayne's Al Dierna.

Of the 87 Long Island wrestlers who came upstate this weekend, 27 in contention for the title, none of the Division II level.

Not included in that group is defending state champ Mike Soria of Kings Park, who was upset by Wantagh's Joe Barbato yesterday. That eliminated the possiblity of meeting his twin brother Max in the final. To read more...

Rocky Point came to the state tournament with three No. 1 seeds and all three have advanced to tomorrow's semifinals.

Jimmy Morris, the 112-pound member of St. Anthony's Triple Threat (which consists of All State wrestlers Chris Brienza, Morris and Grant Greene in consecutive weight classes), is out of the tournament before he's even wrestled.

Morris failed to make weight this morning, giving Longwood's Malik Rasheed (the fifth seed at the weight) a bye into the quarterfinals.
