We are back for Day 2 of the State Tournament, another loooooonnnng day of wrestling, starting with the semis at 10 a.m. and the finals, which begin at 6 p.m.

At 5:00 p.m. tonight (at Clarke HS), we have the Nassau team championships, which are preceded by the semis. What makes this day so special is that Suffolk does not have a tourney like this.... where every team in the county is put in a giant pot, and the last team standing wins. Forget school size or conference affiliation, this touney tests the depth and fortitude of the last team standing.

Four Long Island wrestlers — Huntington's Damon McQueen (119 pounds) and Ryan Fox (160), Syosset's Nick Arujau (125), Central Islip's Andy Rodriguez (145) — have been selected to participate in the 36th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic on Saturday at the University of Pittsburgh's Fitzgerald Field House.

Glenn remains the top team in our Big 10 (ahead of the Half Hollow Hills boys basketball team for the seventh straight week) after it crowned its first state champion — 130-pounder Nick Meinsen (pictured) — at the Times Union Center in Albany on Saturday. Nick Terdick placed third at 152 pounds for the Knights.
Hauppauge moved up one spot to No. 3 this week behind 96-pound state...Read more »
Syosset's Nick Arujau dominated from start to finish in his 16-0 technical fall over Vin Fischetti of Monsignor Farrell in the 125-pound semifinals. His double-bar arms put Fischetti away at the 4:48 mark (he would have had the pin, but the referee whistled the action dead because his move was potentially dangerous).

In pinning Fulton's Adam Wallace in 1:49, Syosset's Nick Arujau (pictured) moved within one of Paul Liguori's Nassau record of 122 wins in a row. Arujau, who is 36-0 with 28 pins on the season, has won 121 straight matches dating back to the 2007 state final.

With his 120th straight win (a 13-2 major decision over Sachem North's Ryan Gerondel), Syosset's Nick Arujau is two wins shy of Paul Ligouri's Nassau record for consecutive victories of 122.
Arujau (pictured), a two-time state champ and the top seed at 125 pounds, hasn't lost since the state final his freshman season.
