We are back for Day 2 of the State Tournament, another loooooonnnng day of wrestling, starting with the semis at 10 a.m. and the finals, which begin at 6 p.m.

ALBANY - I am back at the Times Union Center for the 50th NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships, and unlike last year, I did not have to brave a snowstorm while arriving to the arena... so I'm off to a good start and ready for hour after hour of wrestling coverage. 99-- Jose Rodriguez just keeps on rolling, taking a 17-0 technical fall over Plainedge's Hector Guerrero to advance to the final. Rodriguez is now 40-0. He will face Long Beach's Steven Sewkumar, who beat Westbury's Raeco Jackson, in the final.

Wantagh, the top-ranked team Nassau since the start of the season, almost was eliminated before the Nassau Dual Meet Championships began. Down early to MacArthur in this morning’s semifinal, the Warriors rallied in the upper weights to win, 30-25. The Division I wild card berths were announced for next Friday-Saturday's NYSPHSAA Championships at the Times-Union Center in Albany. Four wild cards in each weight-class are given to wrestlers throughout the state who failed to win their section.
