Baseball roundup: Masci's slam lifts Carey

Gianni Masci went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, seven RBIs and two runs to lead Carey (12-5) to an 11-4 win over Syosset in a Conference AA-I/II baseball crossover Thursday afternoon.

The win clinched the Conference AA-II title for Carey for the first time since 1989. Sal Intagliata went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Plainview 7, East Meadow 5: Ross Kriegsman hit a homer in the bottom of the fifth to give Plainview JFK (6-11) a 6-5 lead. Ben Goldberg threw three scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. Kevin Bonanni was 3-for-4 with a run.

George Heinsman was 3-for-4 with a walk and a run for East Meadow (10-5-2).

Port Washington 9, Hempstead 1: Sophomore Everett Keller threw his first career no-hitter, giving up one earned run, walking three and striking out 12 for Port Washington (16-2) in Conference AA-IV. He was also 2-for-4 with two runs. The win clinched a playoff berth for Port Washington.

Plainedge 5, Island Trees 3: Bryan Dick had a two-run single in the bottom of the second to give Plainedge (11-6) a 4-0 lead in Conference ABC-II. Gary Gurino-Burns struck out two and allowed four hits in four innings, while Dick pitched three innings of relief for the save. Shaun Rutherford homered for Island Trees (13-4).

Bethpage 12, North Shore 6: Joe Miceli went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for visiting Bethpage (7-10). Dan Scime went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Rob Cafiero went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs.

Cold Spring Harbor 5, Malverne 4: Matt Bertuch singled home Kent Gillin to give Cold Spring Harbor (6-11) a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning in Conference ABC-III. Mike Angelo scored on Gillin's double earlier in the inning to tie the score at 4. Derek Gussaroff was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Malverne is 4-13.

Patchogue-Medford 7, Sachem East 1: Marcus Stroman pitched a four-hitter with four walks and 10 strikeouts for Patchogue-Medford (17-1) in League I. Stroman, who has 154 strikeouts in his career, broke the program's career strikeout mark of ' set by Dave Paquette in 2002. Dom DiPresso was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run.

Lindenhurst 10, Brentwood 4: Steve Skon went 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs and three runs for Lindenhurst (12-6). Dan DiBlasi went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Joe Porchelli went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Longwood 8, Ward Melville 5: John Regan's two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning put Longwood (8-10) up for good, 7-5. John Beekman pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the save. Stephen Cordovano went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Smithtown East 9, Newfield 6: Peter Magistrale hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie for Smithtown East (12-6) in League III. Joe DiBernardo's RBI groundout tied the game in the sixth. DiBernardo went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs, and Magistrale went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

Half Hollow Hills West 7, West Babylon 6: Anthony Surber scored Alex Aurrichio with the winning run on a fielder's choice in the top of the eighth for Half Hollow Hills West (16-2) in League IV. Aurrichio went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Surber came in to pitch with one out in the bottom of the fifth and retired 11 batters in a row. West Babylon is 9-9.

Hauppauge 6, Huntington 5: Mike Robinson and Chris Dutton scored on an infield error with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Hauppauge (13-5) a 6-5 lead in League V. Mike Alfano went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the save.

Center Moriches 6, Port Jefferson 5: Dan Lemmen's single scored Jason Schilling in the bottom of the seventh inning with the winning run for host Center Moriches (15-5) in League VIII. Dylan Simpson's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth with two outs tied the game at 5. Lemmen went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Mike Davis pitched four innings in relief, allowing one unearned run on three hits. Port Jefferson finishes the regular season 16-5, while Center Moriches will play for a share of the league title Saturday at Shelter Island/Ross.
