Suffolk basketball roundup: Pizzichillo's 30 leads Stony Brook
Senior Luis Pizzichillo scored a career-high 30 points on
his 18th birthday to lead No. 2 Stony Brook to a 66-48 win over No. 3 Southold Saturnight in a Suffolk Class C boys basketball semifinal. He also had eight rebounds and seven assists. Tim Pandolphi added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists and senior Fabrice Gallard had eight rebounds for Stony Brook (16-3).
Jamie Sawicki scored 26 points to lead No. 3 Southold. Stony Brook will face Port Jefferson at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Floyd in the final.
Port Jefferson 64, Pierson 46: Junior John Nielsen had 20 of his 33 points in a 30-20 first half for No. 1 Port Jefferson (16-4) in a Suffolk Class C semifinal. He shot 11-for-14 from the free-throw line and Chaz Powell added 11 points and eight rebounds. After Pierson cut the lead to 38-35 with 1:19 left in the third quarter, Powell fed Nielsen for a three-pointer to give Port Jefferson a 41-35 lead. Steve McCarron's 16 points led No. 4 Pierson (13-7).
Oyster Bay 51, Locust Valley 43: Kevin Soltran scored nine of his game-high 20 points during a 20-8 fourth quarter as second-seeded Oyster Bay overcame a seven-point deficit in the quarter of a Nassau Class B semifinal at SUNY-Old Westbury. Bryan Van Cott had 13 points, including a three-pointer with 1:30 left to give Oyster Bay a 47-43 lead. Kevin Silva added 10 points. Oyster Bay (8-10) will play Malverne in the Class B final at SUNY-Old Westbury 2 p.m. Saturday . Elijah Lominy led No. 3 Locust Valley (10-8) with 17 points.
Malverne 74, Cold Spring Harbor 44: Kadeem Bell scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second half to lead No. 1 Malverne (9-10) in a Nassau Class B semifinal. Frank Derosa's 14 points led No. 4 Cold Spring Harbor (10-7).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
East Rockaway 51, Friends Academy 33: Kelli Hughes had 18 points and 10 rebounds for No. 1 East Rockaway (18-1) in the Nassau Class C final. It is East Rockaway's fifth title in six years. Alli Pacheco added 12 points. Lizzy Handy's 13 points led No. 2 Friends Academy (9-10).
Port Jefferson 52, Pierson 26: Alexandria Lanieri had 24 points and 10 rebounds for No. 2 Port Jefferson (12-5) in a Suffolk Class C semifinal. Megan Mackenzie added five points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. No. 4 Pierson is 8-9. Port Jefferson plays No. 2 Stony Brook at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Center Moriches in the final.
