The 17 girls lacrosse players who stood out on the fields of Nassau, Suffolk and CHSAA high schools this winter.

KATE BRESLIN
Manhasset, Attack, Senior

Coach Tom Campolettano was reticent about making any predictions for his team prior to the season but "one thing I will not understate is Kate Breslin's ability," he said. Breslin was an All-American Honorable Mention as a sophomore and was All-American as a junior. The Virginia-bound Breslin is sure to be on the team again as this season she tallied 86 goals and 43 assists. She surpassed the 400-career point plateau in the Indians' Nassau Small Schools title game victory over North Shore.

JUSTINE BURR
Northport, Attack, Senior

Burr attained All-American status as a sophomore and her career simply got better from there. She tallied 60 goals last season and 31 this year as Northport rolled to an undefeated regular season. The drop in goals came more from the emergence of Emily Lawrence and Jill Byers as scoring threats, than a drop-off in Burr's performance. She will continue her athletic and academic career at Boston College. Burr appeared on the All-Long Island team last season.

LEANNE FERRETTI
Rocky Point, Midfielder, Senior

Ferretti could do a bit of everything, as was evident in her six-goal, six-assist performance in Rocky Point's 14-7 victory over Sayville in the Suffolk Small Schools semifinal. Ferretti, All-Long Island last year, scored 61 goals as a junior and added 70 this year as Rocky Point took a 15-0 record into the Small Schools final. Ferretti established a program record 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in a victory over Comsewogue April 14. She will attend New Hampshire.

JACKIE FIORE
Garden City, Defender, Senior

The Boston College-bound Fiore was perhaps an underrated factor in Garden City's one-loss season. "She's legit," said Farmingdale coach Tracy Wiener, whose team played to a 13-13 tie with Garden City. As a defender, there are no statistics to validate Fiore's impact but as Garden City coach Diane Chapman said, "Her timing ability to deny the ball to opponents is amazing." A ground-ball specialist, "She will start the ball a lot by something she does defensively and that will start our offense," Chapman said.

MEAGHAN FITZPATRICK
St. Anthony's, Defender, Senior

Despite being a defender, Fitzpatrick had 16 goals and eight assists for a team that won its second straight CHSAA title. However, most of Fitzpatrick's contributions did not make the boxscore. "She's such a smart defender," St. Anthony's coach Melissa D'Angeles said. "She can see where ball is going. What I mean is she doesn't just see the ball and holder, she sees the play as it's going to evolve beforehand."

KIM HILLIER
Farmingdale, Attack, Senior

Hillier scored 61 goals and added 48 assists last season in earning All-Long Island honors and tallied 63 goals this season. She started four years, three times earning All-Nassau County honors. Hillier, who will play at Hofstra, scored six goals in Farmingdale's Nassau Large Schools victory over Garden City. Hillier, along with teammate Krista Pellizzi, are "the best players I've ever coached," according to Tracy Wiener, Farmingdale's coach the past 13 years.
