2007 All-Long Island Boys Basketball
A look at Long Island's best boys basketball players from the 2006-07 season.
Player of the YearRichard Byrd
Copiague, senior
Byrd, a three-year starter, won back-to-back Suffolk Class AA championships. He averaged 25 points, six rebounds and two steals as the Eagles made their first trip to the state Final Four.
Nassau Player of the Year
Markeys Deans
St. Dominic, senior
Deans, a two-year starter, averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks this season as St. Dominic advanced to the state CHSAA Class AA semifinals.
Jon Koop
Kings Park, senior
A two-year starter, Koop's physical presence helped Kings Park to its first Suffolk Class A title since 1950 and the program's first state Final Four berth. He averaged 11 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks.
Greg Lott
Malverne, senior
A three-year starter, Lott led the Mules to state public school and state Federation Class B championships. He was named MVP of the public school tournament. Lott averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds
Chris Barber
Wyandanch, senior
A two-year starter, Barber led the Warriors to back-to-back Suffolk Class B titles. He averaged a Long Island-best 30 points this season.
Matt Cajuste
Jericho, junior
Cajuste led Jericho to back-to-back Nassau Class A titles. He averaged 15 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks as one of the area's most imposing low-post threats.
Mike Sands
Carey, senior
A three-year starter, Sands emerged as one of Nassau's most complete players. He averaged 25 points and 15 rebounds. He's headed to Yale.
Terrell Holloway
Hempstead, junior
Made his varsity debut a memorable one, leading the Tigers to the Nassau Class AA title, the program's first in six seasons. He averaged 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals.
Steven Priestley
Uniondale, senior
A three-year starter, Priestley won Nassau Class AA titles as a sophomore and junior. He averaged 11 points and 12 rebounds. Priestley signed with Siena.
Prentice Small
St. John the Baptist, senior
Led the Cougars to the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA Class A title as a junior and lost in the same game as a senior. He was named league MVP after averaging 25 points, nine assists and four steals.
Nassau Coach of the Year
Darrol Lopez, Malverne
Lopez guided the Mules to the state Final Four for the third time in eight years. This time, the Mules won.
Suffolk Coach of the Year
Dave Shouler, Kings Park
Engineered one of the biggest turnarounds in state basketball history. The first-year coach took over a 2-17 team and led it to a 15-9 record and the program's first Long Island Class A title.
