A look at Long Island's best girls basketball players from the 2006-07 season.Player of the Year
Sammy Prahalis
Commack, junior
Prahalis averaged 23 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals. She led Commack to the Suffolk League II title and Suffolk Class AA final.
Nassau Player of the YearSuzi Fregosi
Massapequa, senior
Fregosi averaged 19 points and nine assists. She led Massapequa to an undefeated Conference I championship season and to the Nassau AA county final. She will play next season at Iona.
Janea AikenSt. Dominic, senior
Aiken is an electric offensive player who has limitless range on her outside shot. She averaged 28 points and five assists and was named the CHSAA Player of the Year. She's going to Albany.
Kim BrennanLocust Valley, senior
Brennan (2,058) is one of only six Nassau players to surpass 2,000 points. Brennan led Locust Valley to the Nassau Class B title. She averaged 23 points, six rebounds and five assists. She will play at Bentley.
Christine Huber
St. John the Baptist, soph.
Huber played much of the season on a badly sprained left ankle, but still averaged 15 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks and three steals. She led St. John the Baptist to its fourth straight CHSAA title.
Tesia Harris
HHH West, senior
Harris is a double-double machine. She averaged 25 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks this season. She's going to Delaware.
Kirsten Jeter
Elmont, senior
Jeter, headed to Stony Brook, is one of the top inside players on Long Island. She averaged 18 points and seven rebounds and led Elmont to the Nassau Conference II title.
Michelle Kurowski
Hicksville, junior
Kurowski scored 28 points to lead Hicksville to a stunning upset over previously undefeated Massapequa in the Nassau AA final. She averaged 21 points this season, and has 2,099 for her career.
Eugeneia McPherson
North Babylon, soph.
McPherson emerged as North Babylon's top scoring option this season. She averaged 21 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Long Island AA champions.
Chanel Chisholm
North Babylon, senior
Chisholm, who will play at Vanderbilt, was the leader for the Long Island AA champions and state finalists. She averaged 17 points, 15 rebounds and five steals.
Coach of the YearGregg Petrocelli, Elmont
The death of beloved Elmont basketball coach on Feb. 27 was a shock to the entire girls basketball community. Petrocelli was not only a great basketball coach, but he was a mentor to Elmont's players and a friend to many coaches across the Island. During his nine-year tenure at Elmont, he led the Spartans to two county titles.
Suffolk Coach of the YearMike Petre, North Babylon
In his first year at North Babylon, Petre led the Bulldogs (23-2) to their first county and Long Island title.
Nassau Coach of the YearGreg Mayerhofer, Floral Park
Mayerhofer led Floral Park (18-5) to its first county title since 1988, which was his first year as coach.
