2006 All-Long Island Boys Basketball
A look at the boys basketball players who stood out on Long Island high school varsity squads in the winter of 2005-06.
Matt Cajuste, Jericho, 6-6, Soph.
Cajuste transferred from Sachem a year ago and immediately transformed Jericho. The Jayhawks and Cajuste have owned the low post since, with back-to-back undefeated conference championships. Cajuste averaged 15 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks to help Jericho win its first Long Island Class A title.
Lance Feurtado, Uniondale, 6-4, Sr.
Feurtado transferred from Westbury as a sophomore and played a key role on three Nassau championship teams. The Drexel-bound swingman played his best ball in the playoffs this season. He averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals for the Knights, who won the Long Island Class AA championship.
Greg Lott, Malverne, 6-4, Jr.
Lott, a three-year starter, led Malverne's Nassau Class B title run. He averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds and three steals for the 19-3 Mules. One of his finest performances was also his last of the season. Lott, who played in the state final as a freshman, had 31 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Wyandanch for the Long Island title.
Tyrone Nash, LWA, 6-7, Sr.
Nash played in two state Federation Tournaments. The multitalented forward averaged 17 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and three blocks for the Tigers, which won IPPSAL and NYSAIS titles. Nash
dominated Peekskill in the state Federation Class A title game, with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks before fouling out as Peekskill rallied to win.
Sean O'Hara, Southold, 6-1, Sr.
O'Hara, a four-year starter, leaves as one of the top athletes in school history with 1,118 career points and two Suffolk Class C titles - the school's first since 1948. The guard averaged 16 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals for the First Settlers, which took home the program's first Long Island championship.
Antoine Pearson, St. Dominic, 6-1, Sr.
Pearson proved to be a fabulous floor leader, the program's best since Sean Kennedy led the Bayhawks to the state Federation Class B title in 1997. All Pearson did was guide St. Dominic to the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA Class AA title, the first in nine seasons. He averaged 15 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Prentice Small, St. John the Baptist, 5-8, Jr.
Small is the gifted point guard who powered the Cougars to the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA Class A title. He averaged 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. He scored a game-best 21 points in a 72-48 win over Chaminade in the league title game.
Sean Smith, Copiague, 6-0, Sr.
Smith, a four-year player, delivered a championship to Copiague this season. The Eagles reached the semifinals in 2005. The smooth point guard averaged 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals as the Eagles won their first Suffolk Class AA title in the school's 48-year history.
