A look at Long Island's best girls lacrosse players from the 2008 season.

NEWSDAY PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Shannon Smith
West Babylon | Attack | Senior

The Northwestern-bound Smith became the state career leader in goals in an April 10 win over North Babylon, burnishing her reputation as one of the best players in the nation. She finished with 505 goals, 62 more than the former record-holder Shari Maslin of Clarkstown North. Smith scored 10 or more goals five times this season, including a career-high 13 against Wantagh on April 14. Smith was also a member of the U-19 national team that won a gold medal at last year's world championships.

NASSAU PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Erin Brennan
Garden City | Midfield | Senior

The Trojans' star has capped her last three All-American seasons with state titles, winning the MVP at the state tournament this year and in 2006. She is the two-time Nassau Player of the Year. Brennan has led GC to a 61-2 record over the past three seasons. She scored two goals with one assist in the overtime period of this year's state final. The Penn-bound senior led Garden City in goals with 84, and had 57 assists.

Stephanie Anderson
Shoreham-Wading River | Midfield | Junior

Anderson was the leader of a balanced SWR attack, scoring 51 goals for the two-time defending Class C state champions. She is an honorable mention All-American and two-time All-County performer, and scored at least two goals in all but one of SWR's 21 games this season.

Caitlin Fifield
North Babylon | Midfield | Senior

Though small in stature, the Richmond-bound All-American came up large for the Bulldogs, eclipsing the 100-goal mark and leading North Babylon in scoring in all but four of its 18 games.

Erin Fitzgerald
Mount Sinai | Attack | Junior

Long Island's leading goal-scorer with 107, she led the 10-8 Mustangs to the Suffolk Class C title game. The All-American scored six or more goals 10 times.

Brianne LoManto
Rocky Point | Goalie | Senior
