The Northwestern-bound Smith became the state career leader in goals in an April 10 win over North Babylon, burnishing her reputation as one of the best players in the nation. She finished with 505 goals, 62 more than the former record-holder Shari Maslin of Clarkstown North. Smith scored 10 or more goals five times this season, including a career-high 13 against Wantagh on April 14. Smith was also a member of the U-19 national team that won a gold medal at last year's 
world championships.
