A look at Long Island's best boys basketball players from the 2007-08 season.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Mikey Russell
East Hampton, Sr., 5-9
Few can dazzle crowds -- and the opposition -- like Russell. The point guard, and second-leading scorer in East Hampton history (1,673), averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 assists, 2.5 steals and less than two turnovers a game. He also hit 267 three-pointers during his career, a Bonacker record.
NASSAU PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Jeriel Henriquez
Long Island Lutheran, Sr., 6-2
Henriquez has an explosive first step and limitless range. He scored more than 1,000 points this season, averaging 19.9 points and 8.3 rebounds. The two-year varsity starter was also one of the key reasons the Crusaders advanced to the state Federation Class A championship.
George Beamon
Roslyn, Jr., 6-5
Beamon averaged 30.5 points, 10 rebounds and three steals a game. More impressive, he scored 40 or more points five times this season.
Matt Cajuste
Jericho, Sr., 6-7
The three-time All-Long Island pick helped the Jayhawks reach the Nassau Class A final. He broke the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound mark, averaging 14.1 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks a game.
Danny DiVietri
Chaminade, Jr., 6-4
DiVietri is the first Chaminade junior ever to be selected to the All-Long Island first team. Behind his 20 points and eight rebounds, the Flyers won the CHSAA regular season and playoff title.
