A look at Long Island's best field hockey players from the 2007 season.ERIN BRENNAN
Garden City, Forward/Midfielder, Sr.
Newsday's Player of the Year. Brennan, a senior captain, scored 11 goals and had 20 assists for Garden City in yet another stellar season for the Trojans. Scoring 25 goals and 46 assists in her career, Brennan has chosen to play lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania.
MADDY COMBS
Ward Melville, Defense, Sr.
Combs strength and stick work anchored Ward Melville's stifling defense that along with goalkeeper Kaitlyn DeTuro allowed just one goal in the regular season. That helped the Patriots reach the state finals after a victory in the Class A Long Island championship.
DANIELLE DEMOLA
Sachem East, Midfield/Forward, Jr.
The versatile DeMola had played defense for the past two years, but was moved to center forward this year. She helped Sachem East reach the Suffolk Class A championship. The three-year starter and co-captain had six goals and four assists and was an All-County and All-State selection.
BRIE CLAIRE DROST
Shoreham-Wading River, Midfielder, Sr.
Drost, a two-time All-County selection, rebounded from an early-season foot injury that kept her sidelined for the first portion of the season to have eight goals and six assists. She led Shoreham-Wading River to a 19-2 record and an appearance in the Class B Long Island championship game.
ERIN FINNEN
Sayville, Defender, Sr.
Finnen, a senior co-captain, was a first time All-County selection and mainstay for the Golden Flashes who were Division II champions and reached the Class B final. Finnen is hoping to attend Ithaca, where she will play hockey or lacrosse.
MICAELA GALLAGHER
Port Jefferson, Forward/Midfielder, Jr.
The All-State selection had 19 goals and six assists for Port Jefferson, giving her 56 goals in her career. Gallagher is the all-time leader in goals at Port Jefferson.
GEORGIA HOLLAND
Ward Melville, Forward, Jr.
Holland was an offensive force in Division I, scoring 15 goals and 16 assists for the Patriots. Holland scored two goals in the Long Island Championship victory over Massapequa.
GENNA KOVAR
Hampton Bays, Forward, Sr.
Suffolk County Player of the Year. Arguably one of the top offensive talents in the state, the three-year All-State selection led Hampton Bays to an 8-7 record and its first Division III playoff appearance in 11 years. She had 15 goals in 2007, and has verbally committed to playing at Hofstra. In her career, Kovar scored 57 goals and had 21 assists.
BRIANNA LIND
Sayville, Midfielder, Sr.
Lind scored six goals and had two assists for Sayville, including a goal in the Suffolk Class B semifinal victory over East Hampton. She was an All-State and All-County choice and was named an "Exceptional Senior" by the Suffolk County Field Hockey Association. She is looking to play field hockey at Colby College.
KRISTEN MAROTTA
Smithtown East, Midfielder, Sr.
The All-County and All-State selection was a two-year co-captain for Ann Naughton at Smithtown East. She scored three goals and had 10 assists for Smithtown East in 2007. She was part of the Empire State team in 2006 and 2007 and will likely play Division I field hockey next year.
KAILA McDONNELL
Garden City, Midfielder, Jr.
The two-year starter and Empire State team alternate was an All-State selection this year for Diane Chapman at Garden City. The midfielder scored four goals and had two assists.
CAROLINE McTIERNAN
Garden City, Forward, Jr.
McTiernan scored in bunches for Garden City, scoring 25 goals plus adding 10 assists in just her first year as a starter. McTiernan was a first time All-County selection this year.
MARIAH PEWARSKI
Garden City, Midfielder, Soph.
Another cog for Garden City's talented 2007 squad, Pewarski scored eight goals and added nine assists. She was an All-State selection this season. As a freshman, Pewarski was All-County and this year was a member of the Empire State team.
LAUREN TERRACCIANO
Garden City, Forward, Jr.
The two-year starter scored 18 goals and made 14 assists for Garden City and was a 2007 All-County selection. Last year, she was an All-County Honorable Mention.
