2007-08 All-Long Island Girls Basketball
A look at Long Island's best girls basketball players from the 2007-08 season.
LONG ISLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR:
Sammy Prahalis
Commack, senior, 5-6
Prahalis finished her six-year career with 2,373 points, second in Suffolk history to Nicole Kaczmarski. The Ohio State-bound point guard averaged 30.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 7.9 assists and 7.2 steals to lead Commack to the Suffolk Class AA semifinals. She was a McDonald's All-American and scored a career-high 50 points against Central Islip on Feb. 11.
NASSAU PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Michelle Kurowski
Hicksville, senior, 5-8
The six-year starter finished her career with 2,581 points and is the third all-time leading scorer in Long Island history and 10th all-time in the state. She helped lead Hicksville to two consecutive Nassau Class AA championships. She averaged 21.9 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. The UMBC-bound Kurowski shot 49 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free-throw line. Kurowski scored a game-high 22 points in the Long Island Class AA championship game against North Babylon.
Janine Aldridge
Massapequa, senior, 5-11
The William & Mary-bound guard was a big reason why Massapequa reached the Nassau Class AA semifinals. She averaged 20.5 points, 5.2 assists, five rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. Aldridge, a three-year starter, was an excellent perimeter shooter and shot 93.3 percent from the free-throw line. She scored 1,025 career points.
Courtney Breen
Hicksville, senior, 5-9
The point guard scored six of her 29 points in overtime of a 64-58 win over Calhoun for the Nassau Class AA championship. She averaged 15.4 points, four rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.5 steals, while shooting 47 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range.
Kristen Doherty
Sachem East, sophomore, 5-10
Doherty led Sachem East to the Suffolk Class AA championship game and scored 21 points in the loss to North Babylon. She averaged 21.5 points, seven steals and 4.6 assists and has 1,069 career points.
Bria Hartley
North Babylon, sophomore, 5-7
