2008 All-Long Island Golf team

BOYS TEAM

Mike Furci, Sayville, Senior

Furci dominated the Suffolk County finals and placed fourth in the states. He shot 2-under 70 at Indian Island Country Club in the county final and 7-over 78 in the Long Island final held at Bethpage Black. He led Sayville to the Suffolk and L.I. title.

Brian Hwang, Hauppauge, Senior

He was seeded No. 1 in Suffolk for the past two years. Though he was disappointed at finishing ninth in the counties, he placed a respectable sixth in the state competition and will be playing on scholarship at the University of Connecticut.

Jessie Perkins, North Babylon, Eighth Grade

Perkins displayed his vast potential by placing fourth in the Suffolk County finals.

Alex Meyer, Oyster Bay, Senior

Entering the Nassau County finals as the fifth seed, Meyer exceeded all expectations by posting an extraordinary 3-over 71 on Day 1 that he rode to the county championship.

Mike Curcio, Garden City, Senior

Nassau's No. 1 seed led Garden City to its first title in five years and made Meyer sweat in the final five holes of the county finals as he rallied from a slow start to finish second with 4-over 72.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Tony Gamboli, Sayville

After 38 years of consistent success, Gamboli finished his final season with a triumph in the both the county and Long Island championships.

GIRLS TEAM

Kelly Shon, Port Washington, Sophomore

In her first season as a varsity golfer, Shon displayed a fine short game. She qualified for the boys state finals by placing eighth in the county championship.

Suzie Lee, Commack, Sophomore

Lee and Dani Mullin tag -teamed to lead Suffolk (Section XI) to the state championship. Lee was brilliant, shooting a one-under 71 in the second day and finished at 151.

Dani Mullin, West Islip, Senior

Mullin shot 79-73-152 in the state tournament to finish one shot behind Lee, giving Suffolk the top two individual golfers and the team championship.

Kristen Gambardella, Garden City

Gambardella shot a 9-over 81 in the Long Island final to lead her team.

Rachel Werner, Smithtown West

Werner shot a one-under 71 in the Long Island finals.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Reid Scalfani, Garden City

Scalfani led his team to the county and Long Island championships.
