2008 All-Long Island Softball

A look at Long Island's best softball players from the 2008 season.

LONG ISLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Jessie Stavola

East Hampton | Pitcher | Senior

Stavola went 22-3 with a 0.31 ERA and 340 strikeouts. She threw 15 shutouts, six no-hitters and a perfect game and led East Hampton to a Class A Long Island title for the second straight year. Only one of her losses, 1-0, to Eastport-South Manor, came against Long Island competition. She also hit .397 with 20 RBIs. For her career, the UConn-bound Stavola was 84-9 with 1,090 strikeouts and a 0.44 ERA.

CHSAA Player of the Year
Carla Campagna

Holy Trinity | First base | Senior

The 2008 CHSAA Player of the Year struck out only once in 47 at-bats while batting .549. She had 15 extra-base hits and 20 RBIs and made just one error while leading Holy Trinity to the state CHSAA championship for the second time. Campagna earned an athletic scholarship to Molloy College.

NASSAU PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Jennifer Heenan

Seaford | Utility Player | Senior

In her first year as a pitcher, she went 9-1 with a 0.90 ERA, and batted .459 with five triples and 19 RBIs to lead Seaford to a Nassau Class A title. Arguably the most versatile player on the Island, she played all nine positions while at Seaford and was a four-time All-County selection at different positions. This season the Iona-bound senior, caught, played first base, shortstop and all three outfield positions.

Olivia Galati
St. John the Baptist | Pitcher | Junior

Galati finished 15-1 with 230 strikeouts and, most impressively, didn't allow an earned run. She led the Cougars to a CHSAA state championship, pitching a three-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts in a 1-0 win against St. Joseph by the Sea. She was her team's offense star as well, hitting .429 with four home runs.

Alexis Gonzalez
Hauppauge | Catcher | Junior

Gonzalez hit .425 with 29 RBIs and 31 runs, was successful in all 20 of her stolen base attempts and made just one error behind the plate. She is a three-time All-County selection and in 2006, she was All-State and a Regional All-American.
