A look at Long Island's best swimmers and divers players from the 2007-08 season.

Long Island Swimmer of the Year

Newsday's 2008 swimmer of the year, Luchsinger proved just how dominant he was by breaking a 23-year-old state record in the 200-yard freestyle at the state meet.

Al Catano
Connetqout, Sr.
In team competitions, there wasn't a better swimmer in Suffolk than Catano. He placed fourth in the 200 freestyle at the state competition in 1:43.33.

Tim Corrigan
Long Beach, Sr.
The anchor of Long Island's best relay team, Corrigan also was a strong performer in the regular-season dual meets. Long Beach's relay team was first at the state meet in 1:27.05 and Corrigan finished third in the 100 butterfly in 51.26.

Sean Lane
Garden City, Sr.
Lane led Garden City to a surprising second-place finish in the Nassau County championship. A strong swimmer who can swim for speed and endurance, Lane won the 500 freestyle at the state championship.

Jack Wagner
Holy Trinity, So.
In just his sophomore season, Wagner proved why he'll be one of the most intriguing swimmers on Long Island. Wagner was the only local competitor to win two events in the state meet, capturing the 50 freestyle in 21.39 and the 100 freestyle in 46.79.

Adam Winerip
Long Beach, Sr.
The diver led a powerful and consistent Long Beach diving attack that made each meet a predictable win for the Marines. Winerip dominated the county diving championship.

Richard Stern, Jericho
Coach of the Year
In just his second year as head coach, Stern led his young squad into prominence in Nassau County. Jericho placed third overall in the county finals behind Long Beach and Garden City. Unlike his colleagues in the top three, Stern accomplished the feat without any state swimmers and a young diving team. A superb tactician, Stern focused on team matchups instead of individual times.
