Gordon has a role in old Boston College video spoof

SUNRISE, Fla. - Before the game, Islanders coach Scott Gordon good-naturedly discussed his role in a video that is quickly gaining popularity on the Internet.

Gordon, who was a goaltender from 1983-1986 for Boston College, appears with his BC teammates dancing and rapping about hockey, a skit that wound up called the "Beanpot Trot."

The routine was created in 1986 as Boston College's version of the Chicago Bears' "Super Bowl Shuffle" leading up to the annual Beanpot college hockey tournament, which includes BC, Boston University, Northeastern University and Harvard.

In the video, Gordon introduces himself by his nickname "Flash" and ends his portion of the collaboration by dropping down into the splits.

Gordon said the video surfaced briefly last season but he managed to avoid catching much flak over it. Recently, when he received an e-mail from Toronto Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson, he realized he couldn't escape his performing legacy.

"He asked if I could still do the splits," Gordon said with a laugh.

Bailey returns to lineup

Gordon did not divulge much about his decision to scratch Josh Bailey for the first time this season Friday night against Carolina, but he said there were several factors.

"I just thought it was the right time," Gordon said.

Bailey returned to the lineup last night, but Jeff Tambellini, who also was scratched Friday, did not. Tambellini sat out his seventh game of the season; Rob Schremp sat out his 11th.
