Pardon the parachute drop-in from Madison Square Garden, but just an anniversary to update. One year ago today, Bill Guerin was traded to the Penguins in that tense, protracted deal process. Of course we all know how that turned out for him.

He was at the Garden with the rest of the defending Cup champion Penguins at the morning skate today, having spent part of a relaxing Olympics break in the Caribbean with his family and Doug Weight and the rest of the Weight family.

What a different scene the trading deadline was for Guerin this time.

"It was nice this year. It’s kind of nice to sit back and follow it, seeing who goes where, without your name being on the screen," he said.

Like just about everyone else who followed the dealing yesterday, he noticed that there weren't a lot of jaw-droppers.  -

“There was not a lot of action, but I guess that’s the way things are. Teams set themselves up during the season and through the draft, with their core players. When it comes down to deadline day, it’s just a matter of little tweaks. If you’re going after a big fish, maybe your team isn’t where it should be.”
