If the Islanders are going to find any diamonds in the rough, this is their chance.
The Islanders' 2013 minicamp begins Tuesday at Nassau Coliseum for prospects throughout the organization.
The camp, which runs until Friday, will include 2013 first-round pick Ryan Pulock and other top prospects such as Ryan Strome, Brock Nelson and Anders Lee, who spent the last month of the season with the Islanders.
"It's definitely exciting," Lee said. "Anytime you come in and you play in front of the organization, you're going to want to show what you can do, what you've been working on."
The prospects will be split into two teams throughout the camp. Each team will have daily practices before competing in the "Orange vs. Blue" scrimmage at 7 p.m. Thursday and a postgame skills competition.
For some of the prospects, it will be their first chance to compete against players in the organization. But for others, this camp has become an annual tradition.
"Every year I get more and more comfortable," Strome said. "The first year, you're a little nervous, the second year you're a bit more comfortable, but now I'm really looking forward to coming down, especially since I'll know a lot of the guys at the camp.
"You want to come in and have fun and learn as much as you can. It's a great week in the summer to get some more experience."
