Islanders put Hunter (chest) on injured list
BOSTON - Trent Hunter (chest) was placed on the injured list Saturday and Joel Rechlicz was recalled from Bridgeport to take his place.
Hunter, who had an MRI Friday that revealed he has a tear in his pectoral muscle, is expected to be out two to four weeks.
Hunter's injury occurred Thursday against Ottawa and is "new, but related" to the one he suffered during the Islanders' preseason game in Kansas City, according to a team spokesman.
Before last night's game against the Bruins, coach Scott Gordon said he was disappointed that Hunter, one of the Islanders' key offensive contributors, will miss a significant chunk of time.
What will the team miss most during his absence?
"His knack around the net," Gordon said. "He's a guy we had penciled in for a certain number of goals and he had a good camp and a good start to the year. Obviously, this is a setback, but this isn't a long-term thing."
Weight out with groin
Islanders captain Doug Weight did not play because of soreness in his groin as he aggravated an injury first suffered during a preseason game against Edmonton Sept. 16.
Weight, who missed the first game of the season because of the injury and played in the Islanders' 3-2 overtime loss in Ottawa on Thursday, said he felt a little sore and wanted to be cautious so it does not become a recurring problem this season.
"Today I felt it a little bit so we thought it best to take a day [off]," Weight said. "Hopefully, I'll be back Monday or the game after that and I won't look back."
The Islanders also scratched Jack Hillen and Jeff Tambellini.
