The Islanders will kick off the Barclays Center era by hosting the defending Stanley Cup champions Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 9.

The Rangers will host Columbus in their NHL regular-season home opener at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 10.

The Rangers will play at Columbus the night before in the Blue Jackets' home opener. The Rangers also will be the visitor for home openers at Chicago on Oct. 7 and Montreal on Oct. 15.

NHL teams announced their home openers for the upcoming season yesterday, with the full schedules to be released today.

This busy week for the Islanders and Rangers concludes in South Florida with the NHL Draft Friday and Saturday.

The Islanders do not have a first or second-round pick but may be active on the trade market. Michael Grabner and Kyle Okposo may be in play when the trade talk heats up today and Friday.
