Can't imagine there are many people tough enough to get hit by a car and be on the ice for a morning skate a few hours later, but Brendan Witt is one of them.

Earlier today, Witt was hit by a car while crossing Arch Street  in Philadelphia to grab his morning Starbucks when a Gold Yukon truck made an illegal left turn and struck the veteran defenseman.

Witt braced himself for impact and attempted to jump on the hood, where he was subsequently thrown off onto the ground from the force of the collision.

Several concerned onlookers making their morning commute gathered around Witt to see if he was okay. In true tough-guy fashion, Witt essentially dusted himself off, hurled a few obscenities at the driver and told everyone he was fine.

"I'm okay," Witt told the crowd. "I've got to go play some hockey. I'm a hockey player. I'm okay. No big deal."

One onlooker (who left me a voicemail describing the event) thought it was a scene being filmed for a movie.

"Boy, that guy is tough," he said. "It was like seeing Clint Eastwood, but in hockey."

Ironically, two members of the medical staff had just asked WItt if he wanted a ride to the Wachovia Centre, but he declined so he could make a java run instead.

Witt opted not to phone police or seek additional medical care after assessing his injuries and deeming himself good to go (Honestly, anyone that knows Witt is probably more concerned for the Yukon right about now!). Witt said he feels totally fine, but is just experiencing soreness on the left side of his body. He is currently on the ice for the Islanders morning skate and will play tonight.

"I just got lucky," Witt said. " Fortunately, nothing bad happened. I'm just a little sore."

"Pretty crazy," Witt remarked about his morning.

Oh, and in case you were wondering...after steadying himself and leaving the bizarre scene, WItt still got his morning latte from Starbucks.
