Deal with Travis Hamonic expected soon after Memorial Cup
Just spoke with Travis Hamonic's agent, Craig Oster, who told me that he has begun negotiations with the Islanders and expects a deal following the Memorial Cup.
"We've made some really strong progress and we're not far off," Oster said. "I fully expect to reach a deal before the deadline and probably soon after the Memorial Cup."
Hamonic, a top defensive prospect for the Islanders selected in the second round of the 2008 draft, will be in action as his Wheat Kings play host to Taylor Hall and the Windsor Spitfires tonight to kick off the Memorial Cup tournament.
"We've had some good progress during this interim period and now we'll take some time to focus on the Memorial Cup," Oster said. "[Isles GM] Garth [Snow] has been very respectful of the process in terms of Travis and things with Brandon."
The Islanders signed fellow defensive prospect Calvin de Haan earlier this month to a three-year entry-level deal.
****In other prospect news, forward Anders Lee (a 6th-round pick in 2009) was selected USHL playoff MVP after his Green Bay Gamblers won the Clark Cup. The 19-year-old Lee (6-2, 215) led the league in playoff scoring with 22 points (10 goals and 12 assists).
