Isles place Blake Comeau on waivers
Perhaps the player who most exemplifies the Isles' failings so far this season, Blake Comeau was placed on waivers this Thanksgiving Day.
Comeau, 25, was coming off a 24-goal season a year ago and narrowly avoided arbitration this summer by signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract in August. The Islanders were counting on him to provide offense from a third/fourth line role, but his struggles this season have simply not gone away. GM Garth Snow's attempts to trade Comeau didn't even bring back enough of a proposed return to make this waiver move avoidable.
Comeau has no points through 16 games (he was a healthy scratch three times) and is a minus-11.
It's possible he will be claimed, but even that's a stretch, which would have been a little hard to believe when the season began. If he clears waivers tomorrow, he'll go to Bridgeport.
