Isles sign Matt Campanale to NHL ATO

The Islanders signed defenseman Matt Campanale to an NHL Amateur Tryout. He will play tonight for the injured Jack Hillen.

Per the rules of the emergency-basis tryout however, Campanale is only eligible to play for the Islanders tonight; he cannot play the remaining three games of the season under the current agreement.

Campanale, 23, just finished his senior season with University of New Hampshire, ousted in the NCAA Men's Hockey tournament by Notre Dame last week.

The Chester Springs, PA native had 11 assists in 39 games for UNH this season. He recently signed an AHL ATO with the team's AHL affiliate in Bridgeport and played two games with the Sound Tigers.
