Nate Thompson settles
Forward Nate Thompson, who was scheduled to have an NHL arbitration
hearing on Monday, avoided that process by reaching agreement today
with the Islanders. He signed a one-year, two-way contract.
flexibility for general manager Garth Snow. Although the Islanders and
restricted free agent forward Blake Comeau remain apart on dollars,
Thompson’s two-way deal means there still is NHL roster space for
Comeau even if Snow signs another free agent for an NHL roster spot. Right now, the Islanders have 20 NHL contracts if you include No. 1
overall pick John Tavares. That leaves three NHL roster spots. Comeau
and Jack Hillen, both RFAs, figure to take two of them. The third could
go to Thompson or a free agent, such as an enforcer or scoring winger.
