The Islanders are awaiting further tests on Nino Niederreiter before deciding how long the 19-year-old forward will be sidelined. Niederreiter displayed concussion-like symptoms after taking a forearm to the head from Stars' defenseman Mark Fistric in the first period of Saturday's 5-4 victory in Dallas.

"Anytime one of your players gets hurt, everybody has a concern,'' coach Jack Capuano said. "He got hit, he's got a concussion. Obviously I think he'll be out for a little while, we’ll see how it progresses.’’

Asked how long Niederreiter may be sidelined, Capuano said, "I don't know...You got to go through tests and be in different phases as far as the head and concussions go.’’

Capuano was asked if Fistric should face disciplinary action from the league. "I don’t comment on that,'' he said. "I know he has a hearing, it's for the NHL to make a determination on that.’’

The Islanders are dealing with other injuries. Capuano said Michael Grabner (groin), who has seven goals and four assists, visited a doctor and is day-to-day. Andrew MacDonald (leg) and Rick DiPietro (groin) are being re-evaluated. Jay Pandolfo, who has a broken foot, was placed on injured reserve, paving the way for a player to join the team before Tuesday's game with the Lightning at Nassau Coliseum.

Goaltender Evgeni Nabokov (groin) skated with the team and Capuano said he is "getting closer. I don't know how close he is. I don’t know if he’ll be ready to go yet. We want to make sure that everybody that comes back is 100 percent. He jus tstarted skating the last three or four days and he's getting where he needs to be.''
