No contract talks yet for Grabner

According to one source familiar with the situation, contract discussions have not yet begun between Michael Grabner's agent and Garth Snow.

Grabner was named yesterday as one of the league's three Calder finalists for Rookie of the Year after a stunning 34-goal season for the Islanders. The Islanders claimed the 23-year-old former first-round pick off waivers from Florida back in October, making him the steal of the 2010-11 season.

Although Grabner is a restricted free agent and the Islanders need only to extend a qualifying offer to retain his rights, they will likely try to sign him to a multi-year deal.

Both parties said they anticipated talks to begin once the season ended, so expect that to be some time in the near future...
