Rhett Rakhshani called up by Islanders
It appears defenseman Dylan Reese will not be the only Sound Tiger to join the Islanders in Nashville.
A source confirmed to Newsday that the Islanders have also called up Rhett Rakhshani for tomorrow's game against the Predators.
The 22-year-old Rakhshani, who was selected by the Islanders in the 4th round of the 2006 draft, leads Bridgeport with 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in 27 games. With one goal and three assists, Rakhshani earned the first star in the Sound Tiger's 4-3 win over Syracuse Saturday.
With two starting defensemen questionable for tomorrow's game--Radek Martinek (arm) and Mark Eaton (groin)--the Islanders are expected to recall Reese on an emergency basis. But Rakhshani was also scratched for the Sound Tigers 3 p.m. game at Worcester.
Assuming Rakhshani plays tomorrow, the Huntington Beach, CA native will be making his NHL debut.
21-year-old center Josh Bailey, who was demoted to Bridgeport more than two weeks ago, added three assists in Bridgeport's win Saturday. The former first-round pick has three goals, eight assists and is a plus-4 in 7 games for the Sound Tigers.
