Schremp headed to Sweden
Former Islanders center Rob Schremp is headed to Sweden, the 25-year-old confirmed via text this morning.
Schremp, who spent almost two seasons with the Islanders, will play for MODO of the Swedish Elite League.
The former first-round pick, who was claimed by the Islanders from Edmonton in September of 2009, arrived in New York with the reputation as a player with serious talent, but one with question marks as well.
Schremp had productive stretches with the team--he showed glimpses of those elite hands and skill-- but could never quite find his niche. The Islanders waived him in February.
Although the Thrashers claimed the restricted free agent--Schremp had three goals and one assist in 18 games for Atlanta--they chose not to extend him a qualifying offer this summer.
MODO is coached by former NHL'er Ulf Samuelsson; Markus Naslund is the general manager of the team.
