Isles Files

Your source for behind-the-scenes New York Islanders hockey news and information.

Season's greetings

I'll try to keep this short and sweet, but I just wanted to make a quick post introducing myself as the new Islanders beat writer. I can't say enough about how excited I am to cover the team and accept this new challenge.

I'm not a native Long Islander, but since starting at Newsday a couple years ago, I learned very quickly  how passionate and zealous the Islanders fan base is about their team. Because of that, I promise to do my very best to provide you all with anything and everything Islanders throughout the season, bringing you constant news, updates from practice, in-depth analysis, video, pictures, etc. Basically, whatever I can do to give you your daily Islanders fix, I will try my hardest!

I've come into contact with many of you in some form or another throughout my last two years at Newsday, whether it be from my days liveblogging (MAB! Shots!) or the many fan reaction stories I've written over the past two seasons (I was in Italy for this year's draft, but believe me, I was bracing myself for mutiny had the Islanders not selected Tavares!), and I'm looking forward to interacting with many more of you in the future.

A little about me: I grew up in Michigan, went to Michigan State University for undergrad, and moved out to NY to attend grad school at Columbia University. Started working at Newsday immediately after I graduated from Columbia and the rest is history.  Also, if you haven't already noticed, I tend to overuse emoticons and ellipses, so brace yourself when reading the blog...;)

Until training camp in September I'll still be doing a lot of baseball, but I'll try to update the blog with interesting and relevant Isles items as frequently as possible. In the meantime, I'd like to enlist your help on a couple things. First, I need to come up with a new name for the Islanders blog, so fire away any fun and creative suggestions (If you are trying to play off my name, however, it is NOT pronounced "strange" as many people conveniently forget ;) ). Also, I just got onto Twitter. I know I really put this off far too long, but now that I am so behind the trend I feel like the new girl in the cafeteria on the first day of school. I'm hoping that by triggering pangs of guilt/pity in some of you, I'll gain some followers! I'm @KatieStrangNYI.
