What the playoffs mean to me: Brian Strait
Brian Strait was a bit sour that the Penguins let him go on waivers in January; now, he’s looking to remind Pittsburgh that it made an error in letting the 25-year-old defenseman go.
Strait will be on the blue line with the Isles for this series and here’s what he thinks of the wild ride he’s had this season:
“Just thinking about it, it’s kind of fitting we’re playing the Penguins. When I look back on it for me, it’s a chance to show them and prove to them what kind of a mistake they made.
“At the same time, it’s been amazing, this whole run the team’s been on the last couple months. Putting it together, making the playoffs and obviously we’re playing our best hockey of the year. So it’s going to be an exciting, hard-fought series.
“You get to a new organization and you want to show them you can play. Obviously, they didn’t just pick you up off waivers out of the blue; teams don’t do that, they know what you can bring. For guys like me and [Thomas Hickey] this year, that’s what they expected out of us. We had a lot of guys who stepped up this year.”
