BOSTON -- After the Islanders’ 2-1 win here on Thursday night, the loudest thing in the visitors’ dressing room was a bit of music -- and sarcastic booing from the stall of the reigning Good Guy Award winner when the media parade walked in, causing the music volume to be lowered.
But that’s all. No whooping, no hollering; maybe the Isles were done with that, but their post-game comments were...Read more »
BOSTON — Islanders coach Jack Capuano had a bit of a chuckle Thursday morning when asked if the Bruins were vulnerable because of some injuries.
“I don’t know how banged up they are," Capuano said. “They’re pretty deep.’’
That depth is being tested for the Bruins, who dropped into the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference after Thursday’s 2-1 loss. They are a possible candidate for...Read more »
Jesse Joensuu's first NHL game in nearly two years on Saturday felt "weird,'' as he put it, being that he was returning at the tail end of this shortened season after sports hernia surgery.
But the forward still is excited to have a home with the Isles, two years after he left for Europe under less-than- pleasant circumstances.
"I feel like on every level, as a human being,...Read more »
What did John Tavares ever do to Winnipeg?
You couldn't help notice that every time he touched the puck Tuesday night, he received serious boos, the way a particularly unfriendly player gets them when he returns to a hostile environment.
That was mentioned to him after the morning skate here on Thursday in St. Louis. He knew all about it. He said the very vocal fans in...Read more »
The Islanders put forward Jay Pandolfo on injured reserve before Monday morning's practice at Nassau Coliseum. The 36-year-old, who was relied on in his role as a penalty killer, broke his foot in a game against the Devils two weeks ago. He will be out until January.
Defenseman Andrew MacDonald was also placed on injured reserve. MacDonald leads the team with 60 blocked shots.

The Islanders are awaiting further tests on Nino Niederreiter before deciding how long the 19-year-old forward will be sidelined. Niederreiter displayed concussion-like symptoms after taking a forearm to the head from Stars' defenseman Mark Fistric in the first period of Saturday's 5-4 victory in Dallas.
"Anytime one of your players gets hurt, everybody has a concern,'' coach Jack Capuano...Read more »
The Islanders host Winnipeg Thursday and the starting goaltender for the Isles will be ... As usual, one of three choices.
Jack Capuano has no intention of breaking up his trio of goalies or naming one as a starter over the other two. He said Evgeni Nabokov, who is back practicing after sustaining a lower body injury against the Penguins last week, "is feeling better, so that's a good...Read more »
Goalie Rick DiPietro, after another full practice since returning from a concussion and with the potential of getting his first action in Pittsburgh Thursday night, dismissed any notion that the game would have echoes of last February’s events there — when DiPietro challenged Penguins goalie Brent Johnson and ended up with a broken bone in his face.
It’s nothing to even think about, DiPietro...Read more »
Less is more when the Islanders consider how few goals they are scoring — two per game so far.
“You try not to put it too much in their heads,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said of his team’s 3-0 loss to Pittburgh Tuesday night — the second time they were shut out in seven games going into Thursday night’s rematch in Pittsburgh. “Obviously, there were some deficiencies in our game that we...Read more »
